Customer: Industrial Equipment Manufacturer (Fluid Power & Pneumatic Controls Division)
Product: Custom Brass Fittings – precision machined brass components for fluid and pneumatic systems
Material: C360 Free-Machining Brass
Process: CNC Swiss Machining
Challenge: Deliver leak-proof threaded connections across NPT, BSP, and metric thread forms with tight tolerances, supporting low to high volume production with 100% critical feature inspection.
Solution: Multi‑axis Swiss turning with live tooling + automated thread verification + optional nickel plating.
Result: 99.7% first-pass yield, zero thread leaks in customer validation, scalable from prototype to 100,000+ pcs/month.

The customer, an industrial supplier of equipment, needed a reliable supplier to manufacture custom brass connectors for their new product line of pneumatic and hydraulic control systems. A variety of components were needed (brass fittings, brass connectors, etc.) that would withstand operating pressures up to 300psi and provide a leak proof seal regardless of the type of thread used (NPT, BSP, and/or Metric). The customer also wanted a single source supplier for both low volume prototype production and high volume production of bulk brass pipe fittings.
As a recognized leader in the manufacturing of precision turned and Swiss Machined brass fittings, we proposed a solution based on using C360 free-machining brass, CNC Swiss turning and 100% Thread Verification. Within 10 weeks, the project went from 200 prototypes to 20,000 or more pieces of finished product per month, with a capacity to grow to 100,000 pieces per month for wholesale distribution.

The customer had trouble with three things while trying to find multiple job shops to manufacture brass connectors. First, different threaded fittings made leaks occur at our rated pressure that turned into field failures and warranty claims. Second, long lead times (35–45 days) resulted in the loss of seasonal demand for factory-made brass pipe and brass plumbing in order to replace them. Third, there was no single manufacturer that could do both prototype moulding and high volume mass producing of the brass pipe connectors, forcing the customer to manage multiple vendors.
The customer was looking for a partner who can manufacture hose pipe brass fittings, brass pipe reducer fittings and other types of brass fittings and ensure a proper seal. Additionally, they needed the option to receive nickel plating on the decorative brass pipe fittings they were going to use in visible areas of the installation, along with strict dimensional verification for their resellers and wholesalers of brass fittings for pipe. Finding a single original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that could provide pipe fitting solutions was necessary to ensure the customer's supply chain functions effectively.

Raw material: C360 free‑machining brass bar stock (certified with mill traceability).
CNC Swiss machining:
Guide bushing support for long, slender brass pipe parts.
Main spindle: O.D. and I.D. turning, chamfering, and grooving.
Thread whirling or single‑point threading for NPT, BSP, and metric threads – critical for leak‑free brass connection pipe assemblies.
Live tooling for cross holes, hex flats, and slot features (e.g., for valve pipe fitting integration).
Optional nickel plating: Electroless nickel plating for corrosion resistance and decorative appearance on decorative brass pipe fittings and brass drain pipe fittings.
Ultrasonic cleaning: Removes all cutting fluids and debris from internal passages, ensuring clean hose pipe brass fittings.
100% thread inspection: Automated go/no‑go gauging for NPT, BSP, and metric threads, plus air leak testing on random samples.
Laser marking: UID traceability for each custom brass connector.

C360 lead-free brass is a free-machining material, but it can also create burrs on the beginning of threaded surfaces (Burrs can prevent proper sealing from occurring, particularly with respect to NPT tapered threads). To overcome this problem, we use thread whirling with micro-radius inserts and then a light brushing process to remove microscopic burrs. This proccess ensues leak free brass hose pipe and brass hydraulic fittings.
To go from prototype parts to 100,000 units per month a stable process was required. By using a modular tooling family with quick change collets attached to them, and pre-set tool offsets, the changeover time was reduced from 90 minutes to 15 minutes. The use of automated bar feeders also allowed for uninterrupted productions resulting in consistent quality for wholesale brass fittings.
The adhesive adhered without blisters to the brass decorative and drain fittings by using both in-line ultrasonic cleaning before plating and a proprietary activation bath. 100% adhesion was achieved based on ASTM B571.
The reducers are made of brass and have dozens of different sizes and threads, making it difficult to inspect them manually because it takes an extended period of time. The custom-made automated reporting and CMM program allows for Quick inspection of 100% of all critical features on each reducer in less than 30 seconds, which meets the customer's specifications for brass industrial pipe components.

ISO 9001:2015-certified CNC Machined Brass Fittings have undergone an exhaustive quality control protocol with on-going inspections through CNC probe checks to ensure that all critical diameters and thread start points are within specification after every 10 fittings. Final inspection procedures will include an automated thread go/no‑go inspection for all thread types (NPT, BSP, Metric) and will include 100% inspection of all fittings for compliance with the requirements of the current standard. In addition to automated thread inspections, an additional CMM inspection will be performed on a random (AQL 0.65) basis using statistical samples to check for full geometry compliance, including concentricity, perpendicularity and surface finish. Air leak testing at 150 PSI will also be performed with a connection for all brass connection pipe assemblies which include gaskets or O‑rings. For nickel plated decorative brass pipe fittings, a visual inspection will be performed under 5 x magnification to check for surface defects. All data collected will be permanently associated with the lot number and retained for 10 years.
